Here are some questions about what I learned on this website.

Question 1. Is this site interesting to kids?
I think it is interesting to kids because it grabs there attention and it's an awesome website to learn more on.

Question 2. What do you like about the site?
I like how it is colorful and it looks like a kid website. I also like how the games help you learn more.

Question 3. What don't you like about the site?
Well..I don't have nothing bad to say about the website. I like how they made everything easier for kids and not like a website for adults.

Question 4. Does this blog motivate you in any way about our upcoming field trip? If so, how.
Um.. yes that website did motivate me. I'm to going to lie the only reason I really wanted to go to this field trip is so it can take learning. But, now I really want to go and see what the musicians are learning and hear the pieces that they made.

Think and Respond

1.) What does Mari learn by taking part in and winning this contest?

She learns that  even though her project wasn't the fanciest or had  a lot of store bought stuff it doesn't matter about the materials you use it matters about how much time and  work you put into your project.

2.) How does Mari feel about herself at the beginning and at the end of the story?

She felt like her project won't win or isn't the best cause she didn't use any store bought materials. Then, at the end she was kind of embarrassed that she had to show the class her diorama.

3.)  What is the author's message about being dependent on other people? How do you know?

That people your dependent on should have a lot of responsibility.  Cause I'm dependent my mother to provide me with food and clothes and stuff. Mari was dependent on Mrs. Frank to give her the books. 

4.) How do you think teachers should judge students' projects? List at least two suggestions.

They should judge them on  how much work they put in it. They should also judge them on how much they got the concept of the project.

5.) Which reading strategies did you use for this selection? Why?

Well.. I used re-read and re- read it helps a lot and if you don't understand what you read just re read.  

Painting with a hammer

This video is call painting with a hammer because he telling a life story on how he's go to do his job. And I think he also inspired other people how to paint with a hammer.  It's kind of exciting  in a weird way he inspires me a little, because regular artists  mostly only use paint brushes. But,  Steve Smithers I guess really wanted to get noticed so that's why he used a hammer to make masterpieces.  Steve was an ordinary guy. He went to college like mostly any adult. But probably he really wasn't into what he was studding in college so  he left and worked in a industry and that's when he finally began to find his new life as an artist. I think it's of cool to do  art work a hammer. But,  I probably wouldn't want to do a art work with a hammer because it seems like a lot of work. ( And like I said I am very lazy sometime.) Than just using a regular paint brush, but don't get me wrong only using a paint brush seems like a lot of work to do an art work. but, if you compare it  painting with a hammer its much easier. So, that's what I think about painting with a hammer. Comment on my blog and tell me what you think about painting with a hammer. 

Lebanon Silver Mine

In stop 2, the miners used  sledge hammers to work. When their using a double jack sledge hammer there has to be two miners there. And they see by using candles. 

In stop 5, they use that room cause it a dry room and they have to care about there health. 

In stop 8,  the tool shed has a couple of barrels there's a shovel and other stuff. They probably use the shovel to pick dirt. And they  probably use the barrels  to  store things. 

In stop 12, the mill is powered by water and they use large belts. 

 Um.. no I would not want to be a miner because me and dirt don't go together AT ALLL!!!!  and I'm some of the time lazy!!!!

Well,  first of all I'm not trying to really criticize the artists work but, this is what I think  about this statue that makes it look old. I'm not trying to be rude and make fun of his/her work. So, the first thing I have to say is that who ever made this statue made long ago I can tell. Because no one wears hats like that anymore. It looks like someone stepped on it to get it look like that. The next thing that I noticed is that his shoes are really different from the shoes people wear now a days. There so pointy and not to be mean but it looks like girl shoes to me. Another thing that I noticed is that his clothes look old. His clothes remind me of clothes that probably pioneers would wear. Or like presidents and his hat looks like what pioneers would wear too. His hand on his chin tells me that he has an idea, and too me that seems like an old thing that presidents would do when they have an idea.  ånd that's what I think about this statue. 

Silver of the 18th, 19th, and 20th Century

SIMILAR:Well, these are similar because there suppose to be teapots. There made out of the same material. There all shiny. They were made in the 17th, 18th , 19th and 20th century. There the same because they all have a handle to hold the teapots.


Different: There different because one of the pictures have more than one teapot. They have different colors. There shapes are really different, because in the picture with four teapots one of the teapots are larger than the others. And in the picture that's really shiny and silver that's a large teapot. and the last picture is small. The pictures are really different because there's only one teapot picture that's gold.

That's what I think about these pictures.

In the picture on the top if you look closely the first three people don't have anything on there heads and the fourth person does, then if you count three more people the eighth person has the same thing as the fourth person.
There clothes have patterns on them in both pictures.  There's a  pattern on there sticks in both pictures.  On the bottom picture the first person on the right isn't wearing blue, then when you count three more people the sixth person is wearing blue then the first person on the left starts the pattern again. Well, I guess that's all the patterns that I noticed from both pictures.  If you find some  more comment me about it. To see if we found out the same things or if we didn't. 

Migrant Mother, 1936

 I think she's thinking about how she's gonna provide for her children, since she had a lot of them.   I think she feels helpless, I think it's hurting  her that she doesn't have  any food for her children.  I wonder if she has any family members that can help her out. I also wonder how her children feels like, if the oldest of them all helps the mother with finding food, or finding a job. Here's some details from the picture that can help my idea about it.  You can tell by the  mothers face that there's something wrong. And how her kids are hiding there faces make me wonder how scared they must be or how they might feel about this whole thing. One day they have food and another they don't. Wow ,that just tells you how precious life is.  And that's what I think about this picture.

Quilts: 19th-20th Century

I can't really can't choose which quilt like the most. Because there all unique in there ways. The big on on the left is telling a story in my eyes. Each spuare tells a part of the big story. The one on the right. If you stare at you can see circles. And other shapes, but to me it looks like broken up circles. In this quilt they used lots of different colors, which I like about. The little ones ont he bottom I like alittle, but they really aren't eye cathing like the other two.

What I think about My Side Of The Mountain

What I think about this book is that it was ok, not all good, but, an ok book to read. Kids who loved things about the wilderness would love this book. But, I'm not a wilderness girl. One thing I loved from this book is that he knew all about finding food which is something very awesome. Like he wouldn't starve to death since he knows about finding the right kind of food you can eat there. Another I like about Sam is that he makes a house out of a tree, and he's only 10 years old. I can NEVER and I mean NEVER do that I'm confident in my self but, I can never do what Sam does int his book. So Sam has a lot of confident, he is also enthusiastic about learning about the wilderness. I have to give Jean Craighead George props to come up with a character like Sam is very cool. She has an amazing imagination. I loved how Sam's telling the story instead of her. I also loved that everyone who Sam knew in the book had a lot of dialog. Then, Sam would talk to him self and say how he feels about the person and things like that.

My Side Of The Mountain (Chapter 22)

1. What happened that made Sam's heart heavy?
His heart was heavy because photographers were coming and taking pictures of him and asking him questions so was reporters.


2. Who did Sam talk to for the next four days?
For the next four days he was talking to reporters.

3. When Sam's father yelled for him, why did Sam hesitate before going down the mountain to greet him?
Because he was wondering if he should meet his dad casue he loves where he lives and don't want to go back to New York, so he wasn't sure if he should go meet him or stay.

4. What made Sam jump in the air and laugh for joy?
He reconized his little brothers pleasure song and he saw his family.



5. What had the newspapers inferred about Sam's mother?
That she I guess didn't take care of her son good. And runaway to the mountains to live.


6. Why had Sam's father brought lumber?
Ithink he brought lumber is. because so he can make Sam a decent house, becuase his mother want him to live in a decent house.


7. At what age did Sam's mother say that he could go wherever he pleased?
When he turns 18 he can go wherevery he pleased.

Because she had to find food for her babies.

Sam was a songwriter and there was a different song writer named Aaron.

He wouldn't talk to people, that he didn't know in the woods. So they wouldn't take him back to New York.

He liked where Sam had lived, because he  was shouting about everything Sam showed him he used in his house.

It was Bando who was sleeping in his bed.

He had said that there might be some photographers in the mountains.

He would walk into the valleys almost everyday for plants.

This man named Matt Spell, he works for a newspaper place called Poughkeepsie.

He did because he didn't say nothing else.

He said let me stay the spring vacation with Sam and if he likes it there I'm guessing then he won't print what he said, he'll only write down it down.

He had said he was going to meet Sam on April 12 at 3:30 and he said he would bring a copy of what he will write.

To be relaxed and in the wilderness.

He made snow shoes for easier traveling.

Because one time he went out of his tree when there was a snow storm and he got lost.

So he can see the nuthatch. He called the nuthatch so he can see him roasting.

He thinks its a mouse that keeps coming in his house.

The horned owl. Sam says that, that animal is a very wilderness bird and so, for the owl to chose the Gribley farm. It means that it is a beautiful place to live.

~ At one time, Sam had to open his door off and on through the night. Why?

Because if he didn't do it he was going to be iced in for the whole day.

~ What caused the trees to keep exploding all over the mountains?

The ice that was on it and the snow.

~ What cured Sam of his tiredness, nosebleeds, and  aching bones?  What was Sam lacking?

He just needed to eat more of his vitamins, so when he carved the liver he ate everything that he could eat out if it. And when he was done eating it, all those symptoms went away. He lacked citrus fruits and green vegetables. 

~ Why did Sam sit in the sun when it was out?

He noticed that birds were sitting outside in the sun when it came out, so he tried that he and Frightful.

~ At one time, Sam was giving a heard of deer a free lunch. What did he serve?

He hoped off limbs for them to eat.

~ Why did the deer suddenly quit coming?

The deers forgot about coming they were at the bottom of the mountain.

~ What did Sam find in the hollow maple that convinced him that spring was approaching?

He found eggs, that convinced him that spring was on it's way.

he was thinking about the owl and the eggs.

His deer suit kept hin very warm.

Mr. Bracket was this man that lived in Sam's apartment in New York. Mrs. O'Brien, Mrs. Callaway and Mrs. Fedrio were friends it seems like. They went to market together and lectured children that was in the streets.

Because the chickadees reminded him of these people.

-- What day did Bando arrive for Christmas? What was Sam planningn to give him for Christmas?
He arrived on Christmas Eve he made him a hat.

-- What did Bando tell Sam about?
He showed him a newspaper that said a boy living off deer clothing in the Catskill Mountains.

They played Holy Night and they tried to play The 12 Days Of Christmas but the whistles were to stiff.

Bando was too tired to play more. So Sam and him stopped playing.

Sam's dad visted him , he went to Mrs. Fielder and asked her about Sam.

They had fish, and ate accorn pancakes and drinked, Sassafras drink.

He caught a pheasent in the stream, and caught six trouts when he went ice fishing.

He wanted to be able to reach his wood from the tree when the snow had gooten way to deep.

When he had that first snow storm he was scared now his is prepared for a snowstorm.

It was Bando's jam he would eat

He found a teaberry plant and a wintergreen plant.

* What did Sam write during the snow storm since he did not have paper?
He would get some birch bark to write on.

Hunting season had begun there.

2. Why did Sam decide to go the libary?

He wanted to see Miss Turner.

3. Why did Sam decide he should not go to the libary?

Because a gun shot was shooten right by his elbow he was scared for his safety.

4. Why did the man give up on his deer hunt?

Because he kept on shooting and shooting but, he couldn't shoot the deer. The deer was hiding.

5. Sam did not have to smoke the last two deers. Why?

Because the tempeture there was too cold.

6. Why did Sam have trouble tanning their hides?

Because the water he had put on his oak stump had kept on freezing.

* Who is Sam in competition with when gathering walnuts and hickory nuts?
Sam found squirrels that collect walnuts and hickory nuts. So, he tried to get all before they could.

*How did Sam prepare apples to save them for Winter?
He would collect them and cut them into slices then, he would put them on a stump and let the slices of apples dry.

* What food did Sam serve at the Halloween Party?
He made cracked nuts, smoked rabbits and cray fish for the party.

* What did Sam discover in an ox at the stream?
He had discovered wild rice there.

* What happened to Sam's house that evening?
It was a mess his guests that came to the party had made a big mess of his house.


* What four things did Sam do to get rid of his guests?
He shouted and scared some of them they left. Then, he chased some raccoons out the house.

* What was the last animal to leave?
Skunks, a Fox and Raccoons were the close to last animals to leave but, the last was the fox.

He had to get his house ready for Winter.

Cause his fur was growing and changing this made him itchy.

They were all preparing for Winter.

He wanted to make a fire place out of clay.

~ What was wrong with Frightful when she got sick?

She had flew away and she would put her head under he wings. And she just acted unnormal than she usaully act.

~ What did Sam do to correct the problem with his heating system?

He had found a big flat stone. And he needed that stone so he can fix his fire place. He broke it into half and put them on both sides of the funnel.

He used bark and it's slippery elm.

Jessie Coon James is his young weasel he found he would find mussels more than three men would.

Frightful was the expert hunter and he had caught rabbits for rabbit stew and other things.

~  What two drinks did Sam make?

Sam found these drinks in tree, he made Sassafras tea and Pennyroyal drinks.

~ Where was the man when Sam found him?

He found him laying by his home sleeping.

~ What did Sam make Bando for dinner?

Bando had to chose between Venison or Rabbit. He made him Venison to eat since he chose it.

~ What did Bando call Sam?

He wanted to call Sam Thoreau.

According to Sam  a week or ten days. 

~ What did Bando make out of clay?

He made some jars and lids for Sam to keep.

~ When did Bando say he would come back?

He said he would come back at Christmas to visit.

HEY!!!!!!!!!! I'M BACK WITH A NEW REPORT ON THE TWILIGHT SAGA THE SECOND BOOK CALLED NEW MOON!!!!!!!!!

So where did I leave off last time? Oh yeah I remember Edward Cullen had left Bella!!!!!!!

October, November, December, January, he left her all these months. How could he do that to Bella? But, he cares about her and he did this because of her safety. Since, he left all those months  Bella had been staying home mopping around the house after school doing nothing. Her dad got mad about that he hates to see his daughter sad. So he said he was going to send her back to Arizona. But, she talked him out of it. So, Bella went to see an family friend. She went to Jacob Black. She asked him if he can do her a favor. The favor was that if he can fix her motorcycles. Even though she had promised her father that she wasn't going to ride a motorcycle in her life. She wanted to break all her promises. Just like Edward broke his. When Bella started hanging out with Jake she started to have her life back again. When she not with Jake the wound in her heart starts getting deeper. When Jake finally finished the motorcycles he and Bella went to go try them out. He was teaching her how to ride it, how to control it , and if anything happens how to stop quickly. When Bella tried riding it for the 3-4 time she fell and was willing to do it again. But, Jake was scared cause she had a big mark on the top of her head. (Bella is kind of clumsy just for the info) So, he took her to the hospital. But everything was ok. But, Bella and Jake had to hurry to her house so she can change her clothes. Before her dad gets worried about her and she can't ever see him again. Anytime when Bella does something so stupid and reckless and that can harm her she hears Edward's voice. So she keeps on doing it and doing it she loves hearing Edward's voice. One day she goes in the woods to stop her dad from the killing of werewolves. She doesn't want him to get hurt. When Bella was in the woods (she promised her father that she was not going to go there since there's been complainants on werewolves attacks) she saw Laurent (he's a vampire and James friend or something like that) she was so scared. Laurent told her that he had came to find her to tell her that Victoria wants to kill her for what happened to her James. (Edward had killed James for hurting Bells) Laurent said it wouldn't be fun just to tell her the news and won't do the job for her. Bella was trying to move but she couldn't. Then she saw the werewolves, and Laurent was running away in a blink of an eye. Who knew that vampires were scared of werewolves. When they ran after him she ran to her car to go home. Because she thought they was going to come back for her. When Bella went to Jake's house to see why he haven't been returning her calls, come over and she was tired of Billy's excuses (Billy is Jacob's dad) about him not being there. When she got there Jake told Bella that he couldn't hang out with her. Then, they got into a big fight because Bella thought that Sam Uley pulled him into his group just like he did with one of Jake's friends. Jacob said that it wasn't Sam's fault. So Bella left in tears. One night when Bella was sleeping she heard noises on her window and it turned out to be somebody out there. It was Jake. He came to tell her sorry for making her cry. He said he couldn't be her friend because he was a _____________. He couldn't tell Bella she had to figure out her herself. He said do you remember any of the stories I told you at the camp out about a year ago? To give her a hint. She knew all the stories. He said that he was something in the story. Then he left. Bella told him to go out the door not the window so he doesn't hurt himself. When Bella figured out she went to tell him. He said she was correct. She told him that she has a vampire that's trying to kill her. And she told him more stuff about the vampire. He took her to his group of werewolves. He said that he wouldn't get in trouble because you have dirt on a way to destroy the vampire. When they saw him with a girl they were furious about that idea. He was getting yelled at by Sam at his other werewolves partners. Then he told them about the information that she had. Then they was ok with the idea that she was there. Everyone went to Sam's fiancee house. One of Jake's partners said what ever you do don't look at the right side of his fiance 's face. She said alright. She asked what happened to her. One of them said that Sam had a temper.. and she was to close. His fiancee was very sweet. And she it seemed like she played the mother-like role to the group. After they ate. They took her home. Days after that Jake had to go to one of his groups so Bella went to do cliff diving. was bringing Bella home and he said that there was a vampire there. But, she said it was Charilse because his car was there. But, Jacob wasn't sure about it. So he left her there. and said "Bye Bella I hope you don't die'' but, Bella knew it was one of the Cullens. When she got inside the house he heard noises then she saw Alice Cullen. She was so ecstatic to see her it's been so long. Alice came a back to see if Bella was dead. She was mad at Bella she thought she died when she jumped off the cliff. When they was starting to talk the phone rang it was Jacob. He called to see if Bella was safe. And he came over. Bella really wanted to know if Edward was going to come and see her. Alice said no. That made Bella very sad. Alice and Jake wasn't people who should be in the same room with each other but, they both love Bella. The hone rang again and this time Jake picked it up. It was Edward but how was Jake suppose to know. There was a funeral one of Charlies friends died from a heart attack. And when Edward had called he asked if there was a funeral and Jake had said yes. So, Edward thought that Bella died. When Bella asked who called he said some guy wanted to know if there was a funeral happening. Alice knew it was Edward she got so mad. She called to talk to Edward but, Rosalie answered the phone and she was being rude on the phone. Alice got mad and hanged up the phone. She told Bella that they have to save Edward he was going to the Voultroi they lived in France. Bella knew when she said those words that she Edward was going to ask them to kill him. Bella didn't want him to die even if he didn't want to be with her anymore. Jake really wanted her to stay. He was trying to convince her to stay, but Bella wanted to save her true love. So Alice went to go buy plane tickets to leave. Jake sad that she was going to be safe if she could just stay in Forks. Bella didn't take his side she was going with Alice and that was that. She made Jake a promise and she wanted to really promise her that he was going to do it. She wanted to know if he would take care of her father. He promised her that he would with all the his heart he would. So Alice was outside waiting for Bella so they can leave to the airport. Bella and Jake was a alone. Bella kissed Jake's hand and left with Alice. When they was on the plane Alice told her not to think of any bad thoughts think of the positive. It was very hard for Bella to do that. There's so much things happening at once. Alice was trying to see if anything was changing (she has special gift to see whats going to happen in the future.) They had reached to France now and Bella had to find Edward by her self. Alice couldn't help her. It was the only way for her to save her true love. Alice forgot that it was a holiday that day. So there was a lot of people outside. Bella was running all over the place to find Edward. She had to search around the tower cause that was where he was waiting. She looked and looked until she finally found him. She screamed his name but he couldn't hear her. So she ran to him. She ran so fast that she ran into him. She was just about to hit the floor but Edward picked her up quickly. Alice was right behind them. One of the soldiers took Bella, Edward and Alice to the Voultroi. When they went there they had only two choices. Number one for Bella to die. Number two was for Bella to change in to a vampire because no human is suppose to know about vampires and mythical creatures like them self. So Edward said that they would think about it. And left. ~ What is needed to tan hide? How did Sam get it?

It had to  be steeped in tannic acid. He had to put water on the deer skin and needed an Oak Tree.

~ What did Sam do with the hide?

He put it on a stump and put water on it. He left it there for about five days then he dried it.

~  How did Sam make frog soup?

He fixed his frog soup in this order: clean, skin and boil until tender.

~ What did Sam need another deer for?

So he can make his suit out of deer.

~  Why did Sam and Frightful go to gather seeds, bark and tubers?

Sam was celebrating for Frightful for learning how to fly a whole 50 feet.

~  Where did Sam store his food for winter?

He had put them in the his tree and he didn't have enough  space so he cut down another tree.

~ Who got rid of Harold and Grace when they tried to sit on a boulder near Sam's tree?

It was the weasel he scared them by running around and scaring them.

He made his hide out of the door in his house, for a suit and to make Frightful a leech.

So he wouldn't go wild. So anytime he catches something he wouldn't wanted to eat it right away.

-- How did Sam preserve his food for later use?

He would bone them and put them on sticks to save them for later. He said it was the best way to save food. 

-- Who screamed and caused Sam to jump in a tree?

It was the weasel who had screamed and made him jump.

-- How did Sam get  a deer?

He had saw it the middle of the grass dead.

-- Who killed the deer?

This man with a riffle gun killed the deer.

-- What kind of steak did Sam eat for many days?

He had to eat steaks made out of deer meat because he just found the deer .

--  What kid of animals make these noises 'pop, pip, pop?'

He had heard earthworms making those noises.

My Side Of The Mountain (Chapter 9)

~ What did Sam feed Frightful that morning?

He fed him rabbit bites that morning. 

~  What did Sam catch in his trap?

He had caught a weasel. But before he caught the weasel he didn't know what it was.

~  What impressed Sam about the animal he caught?

The weasel was brave that really impressed him no other animal was like that or was going to do that  to him. 

~  What did Sam call this animal?

He called the animal The Baron he had remembered a weasel like him  when he lived in his old tree.

~  Why did Sam want to get a deer?

Because he needs a door ( if he catches a deer he's going to make the door out of dear skin) and something to cover him at night so he won't be cold.

~  What did Sam make to season his food?

He had used salt for his seasoning.

~  What did he do with the seasoning he made?

He put it on the frog legs and the food he was eating.

~  What did Sam make out of an oaken board?

He made the stream out of an oaken board.

The man was wearing a forester's uniform. This man was waiting for Sam.

He went to his tree and watched his bird fall to sleep.

He caught a rabbit from the bottom of his gorge.

He had put Garlic in his rabbit soup and he put in Jack-in-the-pulpit roots.

He made a bed with his falcon Frightful right besides him.

*. What made Sam forget about the man?

He forgot because he was thinking about how to train his falcon and he forgot about the man.

M.L.K. for a day (Quote)

Quote: The point of non violence is not to humiliate the opponent, but to gain his friendship and understanding. Dr. King did not want his followers to shame racists, only convince them to treat people better.

I had chose this quote because it really stands out to me. And that this quote is a good thing to live by. People should not humiliate you from the color of your skin, or how you look or anything about you. If they don't accept you they don't accept you. You can not change that at all you have no power over that. But, one day they'll turn around and accept you for who you are. Another reason why this quote stood out to me was because he's not afraid if people don't like him. He was taught to love the people who hated him or didn't like him. This quote is one of the things at makes me wonder more about people who changed our lives forever. I'll always and forever remember this quote.

M.L.K. for a day (Reflection)

Well, all that stuff we learned about Martin Luther King  was a treat. Because some kids who really want to know about Martin Luther King can't cause their school don't have an opportunity or don't get a chance.  Martin Luther King is a great man and he is a man who should not have died at a young age. He freed a lot of people. The people who were there and did not accept him as a leader and didn't like him should feel ashamed. I mean like everyone, every single one has some love in them and has a heart. And could be caring, loving and peaceful if they wanted to. So, they could of thought about what they was doing especially the man who shot him. Martin Luther King was a great person I'm so grateful to have a chance to learn about him and his life.

Miss Turner had cut Sam's hair at the library.

• What do May apples taste like according to Sam?

He had said that May apples tasted like  very sweet bananas.

• What was Sam watching for when he cooked the trout?

He was looking out at the sky to see if he would find his falcon.

• Where did Sam sleep that night?

He slept by the cliffs to watch the birds.

• While he watched the cliff, what did Sam cook for breakfast?

He had boiled mussels for breakfast.

• What did Sam do to get his falcon?

He went to the top of the cliff and stole one of the little falcons and have put it in his sweater.

• What did he name the falcon?

He had named his new falcon Frightful. 

• Why was Sam's shoulder bleeding?

He got his shoulder bleeding because the falcon hit him in the shoulder.
